Mesa board reviews Gateway Crossing; no approval vote taken
Mesaโs Design Review Board reviewed plans for Gateway Crossing on Oct. 13, but did not take a formal vote. The review was a presentation, not an approval of the proposed development.
The proposed 36.8-acre site is at the southwest corner of East Williams Field Road and State Route 24 in Mesa. Plans describe a major-tenant building, two shop buildings, two hotels and a fuel station. The City agenda lists the anchor building at about 166,000 square feet, while the project narrative puts it at about 164,000 square feet. The two shop buildings total about 27,950 square feet; the hotels would have about 212 rooms combined.
City presentation materials put the commercial center at about 355,340 square feet and identify the hotels as a Residence Inn and Home2Suites. Two drive-through restaurant locations are shown as conceptual and would require later City review. The project narrative says about four acres would need to be annexed into Mesa.
The City meeting record listed draft minutes and no posted action or result. Vestar has told the Phoenix Business Journal it expects to break ground in mid-2027; that is a company estimate, not an established construction date.
