Mishawaka E. Twelfth Street reconstruction: July 6–23 restrictions & Laurel detours
Drivers in Mishawaka should plan extra time this week: the City of Mishawaka says the E. Twelfth Street Reconstruction project is moving into new phases that add traffic restrictions and detours in the E. Twelfth & Laurel area.
First, the City says crews begin limiting eastbound travel on E. Twelfth Street starting Monday, July 6, 2026. The eastbound closure runs from Laurel Street to Campbell Street, with only westbound traffic permitted during this phase.
Phase 1 (starting July 6): Eastbound closure from Laurel to Campbell
According to the City’s traffic alert, beginning Monday, July 6, the limits of the eastbound traffic closure along E. Twelfth Street will be from Laurel Street to Campbell Street. During this phase, only westbound traffic will be permitted.
Phase 2 (weather permitting): E. Twelfth & Laurel intersection closed starting July 13
The next, bigger change begins Monday, July 13. The City says the intersection of E. Twelfth Street and Laurel Street will be closed to all traffic (weather permitting).
During that closure window, the City directs drivers to use the posted detours:
- Eastbound detour: via Union Street
- Westbound detour: via Merrifield Avenue
The City expects the intersection closure to remain in place until Thursday, July 23, 2026 (weather permitting).
After July 23: Westbound-only restriction continues through Nov. 25
After July 23, the City says traffic will continue to be restricted to westbound only from Laurel Street to Campbell Street until Wednesday, November 25, 2026.
