Teen driver’s medical emergency damages home

Police say a 17-year-old driver suffered a medical emergency early Friday on the 1000 block of Skyline Drive, sending his car off the road and into a parked vehicle, a retaining wall, and a home. No one inside the house was hurt, and the teen declined medical treatment at the scene. The crash caused visible damage but no injuries, and officers are still reviewing what led up to the incident.

Five injured in pickup–bus collision

Earlier in the week, a Grant Transit Authority bus was struck in a T-bone collision at Patton and Loring streets after a pickup reportedly failed to stop. Investigators say five people were hurt, including the bus driver and four passengers, and all were taken for medical evaluation. The crash is another reminder to take extra care at intersections, especially around larger vehicles that carry multiple passengers.

County reports first flu death of the season

Grant County health officials confirmed the first flu-related death of the 2025–26 season, involving a resident in their 50s with underlying health conditions. They report that flu activity is running higher than usual right now, even as COVID-19 and RSV remain at relatively low levels. Residents are being urged to stay home when sick, wash hands frequently, and consider a flu shot if they have not yet received one this season.

Art and family activities on the weekend calendar

The Moses Lake Museum & Art Center is hosting a free family craft day today focused on Valentine’s Day cards, along with a watercolor class featuring a great blue heron theme. Both programs are designed to give families and art lovers a low-cost way to spend time together indoors while the winter weather lingers.

Looking ahead, a downtown ladies’ night event and other Valentine’s week activities are on the calendar across the Columbia Basin, giving local businesses a boost as residents shop, dine, and browse closer to home.
