Murrieta’s November Election Lists Five as Aug. 7 Deadline Nears
Murrieta’s City Clerk listed five people as having been issued nomination papers for City Council Districts 1, 2 and 5, with the nomination period scheduled to close at 5 p.m. Friday, August 7, 2026.
The city’s list was updated Monday, July 27, at 5:19 p.m. It names Jon Levell in District 1; Ron Holliday and Keelan McCullough in District 2; and Cindy Warren and Luiz Valdez Jr. in District 5.
Who is listed by district
The July 27 document shows the following nomination papers issued:
- District 1: Jon Levell
- District 2: Ron Holliday and Keelan McCullough
- District 5: Cindy Warren and Luiz Valdez Jr.
The list is not the final candidate field
Murrieta’s document distinguishes between nomination papers issued, nomination papers filed and candidates who have qualified. The filing-date and qualification-date fields were blank for the five names on the July 27 update.
That means the people listed should not yet be described as formally qualified candidates based on this document alone. The list can also change before the nomination period ends. The City Clerk is continuing to update the election information while papers are being issued and filed.
Key dates for Murrieta voters
Murrieta’s nomination period opened July 13 and ends at 5 p.m. August 7. The city calendar lists a public-examination period beginning August 10 and ending August 17.
The General Municipal Election is scheduled for Tuesday, November 3, 2026, and will be administered as part of Riverside County’s consolidated election process. The deadline to register to vote or update a voter address for the election is October 19.
The city says election results will be certified at a City Council meeting in December 2026.
Why only three districts are listed
Murrieta elects City Council members by district rather than placing every council seat on a citywide ballot. The November election call identifies Districts 1, 2 and 5 as the districts involved in this election.
Under the city’s election rules, a person seeking a district seat must reside in that district and be a registered voter there when nomination papers are issued. The July 27 nomination list therefore gives voters an early view of activity in those three districts, but it does not establish the final ballot lineup.
Residents in Districts 1, 2 and 5 should check Murrieta Election Central for updates as the August 7 deadline approaches. The next meaningful change will be whether nomination papers are filed and whether the listed individuals are later shown as qualified.
