New Orleans East boil-water advisory lifted after main break
New Orleans LA – SWBNO canceled a one-day boil-water advisory in part of New Orleans East after a main break dropped pressure below safe levels.
A precautionary boil-water advisory in part of New Orleans East was lifted on June 28 after Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans crews and the Louisiana Department of Health said testing showed the water was safe.
The advisory began June 27 after a water main break pushed pressure below 20 pounds per square inch in a limited area of the neighborhood. The affected streets were Hayne Boulevard from Paris Road to Vanderkloot Avenue, Paris Road from Hayne Boulevard to I-10 Service Road, I-10 Service Road from Paris Road to Bundy Road, Bundy Road and Vanderkloot Avenue from I-10 Service Road to Hayne Boulevard, and the entire Oak Island subdivision.
Why the notice was issued
Boil-water advisories are often precautionary. When pressure drops too low, a utility can no longer be certain that water stayed protected inside the system. In this case, SWBNO said the pressure loss came from the main break, and the utility worked with LDH while tests were completed.
For households and businesses, that kind of notice can briefly disrupt cooking, cleaning, food service, and basic routines. Even if the problem clears quickly, the advisory still affects when people can safely use taps, ice machines, and other plumbing-connected equipment.
What happens now
SWBNO said residents who did not use their water during the advisory should flush their internal and external plumbing for several minutes. That step helps clear out water that sat in pipes while the advisory was in effect.
The short duration matters. This was not a citywide water emergency, but it was still a real service interruption for the streets and subdivision named in the notice. For New Orleans residents, it is another reminder that even routine utility breaks can quickly turn into day-of disruptions before testing and repairs restore normal service.
