New Publix Opens, Free Pet Adoptions Launch, Medical Office Celebrates Move in St. Pete
St. Petersburg, FL – March 13, 2026 – A new Publix opens in north St. Pete, free pet adoptions launch countywide, and a major medical office celebrates its relocation.
It has been a busy week across St. Petersburg, with new businesses opening doors and community initiatives rolling out just in time for spring.
New Publix Opens in North St. Pete
A brand-new Publix supermarket is now welcoming customers at 6605 38th Ave. N. The 55,000-plus square-foot store officially opened Thursday morning, adding another full-service grocery option for north St. Pete residents.
The location features grocery, deli, bakery, seafood, pharmacy services and an adjacent liquor store. An indoor seating area gives shoppers a place to pause and enjoy prepared foods. City leaders have continued to highlight new grocery investments as a sign of steady neighborhood growth.
Adoption Fees Waived for Longest-Waiting Pets
Pinellas County Animal Services has launched its Spring Free from the Shelter campaign, aimed at helping long-stay dogs and cats find homes. Through May 31, adoption fees are waived for pets who have been in the shelter’s care for more than 60 days.
All adopted animals come spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped with lifetime registration and licensed for Pinellas County. Shelter officials say the goal is simple: clear space, save lives and give overlooked pets a fresh start as the busy spring season begins.
Medical Office Marks Relocation
The Florida Orthopaedic Institute celebrated a relocation and ribbon-cutting this week in St. Petersburg, drawing business leaders and community members. The move reflects continued investment in local health care infrastructure and expanded patient access in the city.
Community Forum Held Downtown
Business and civic leaders are also gathering today for a March Friday Forum event in downtown St. Petersburg. The meeting brings professionals together for networking and discussion on local issues, underscoring the city’s active civic calendar.
From grocery aisles to pet adoptions and expanding medical services, the week’s headlines reflect a city continuing to grow while keeping community needs front and center.
