North Dartmouth road paving starts June 9 on Slocum Road and 11 nearby streets
North Dartmouth MA – Dartmouth’s six-week paving job starts June 9, bringing weekday parking bans, signed detours, and slower travel on Slocum Road and 11 other streets.
North Dartmouth drivers should plan for six weeks of paving work
Road work begins Tuesday, June 9, in North Dartmouth, and it is expected to affect one of the area’s key commuter corridors. The Dartmouth Department of Public Works says a mill-and-overlay project will run through Saturday, July 18, with work scheduled from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The town says the work is being done by DPW and third-party contractors.
Detours will be signed several days before operations on each street. For residents, the most immediate change is the weekday parking ban: no parking is allowed Monday through Friday during paving hours on the affected streets.
Streets in the paving plan
The town’s list includes Slocum Road from Route 6 to Patton Avenue, plus Metropolitan Street from Slocum Road to the dead end, Huntington Avenue from Slocum Road to the dead end, Lexington Avenue from Slocum Road to house number 90, Longfellow Street from Lexington Avenue to the New Bedford city line, Longwood Ave from Slocum Road to the dead end, Patton Street from Slocum Road to the dead end, Truman Avenue from Marshall Street to MacArthur Street, MacArthur Street from Truman Avenue to house number 4 on Marshall Street, Doolittle Avenue from Nimitz Street to Doolittle Avenue, Nimitz Street from Truman Avenue to Doolittle Avenue, and Chase Road from Kyle Jacob Road to Gentle Valley Drive.
For North Dartmouth commuters, school runs, deliveries, ride-hails, and customer trips, the practical effect is less about a full shutdown than a rolling series of short-term disruptions as crews move from street to street. Businesses along the corridor may want to alert customers and vendors before the parking bans begin.
