The recent decline has not erased the longer-term increase. The regular-gas average was 43.1 cents higher than a month earlier and 70.5 cents above the year-ago average. Diesel was also 94.1 cents above its month-ago average and $1.77 above its year-ago average. That creates a more persistent fuel-cost concern for contractors, delivery operators, landscapers, service businesses and other companies using diesel-powered vehicles or equipment.
