Trinity Metro has begun construction on a planned 2.1-mile TEXRail extension from Fort Worth T&P Station to a new Near Southside/Medical District station, the City of Fort Worth reported Oct. 29. The groundbreaking marks the start of construction; it does not mean the station is open or passenger service has begun.
The extension is intended to connect the district with existing TEXRail service to downtown Fort Worth, Northside, North Richland Hills, Grapevine and DFW Airport Terminal B. In a Sept. 24 announcement, Trinity Metro said its board authorized agreements with Baylor Scott & White affiliates, including a planned donation of about 1.76 acres for the permanent station site. The agency said then that the agreements still required finalization and legal review. Plans also include customer parking, a bus turnaround and an access road.
When can riders use the extension? A City project schedule published in April 2026 estimated substantial completion in fall 2029 and service beginning late that year. That estimate predates the groundbreaking and is not a confirmed opening date.
