Oceanside-area gas and diesel prices edge higher in Aug. 1 AAA check

Regular gasoline and diesel both moved higher in AAA’s Aug. 1, 2026, San Diego metro price check, with diesel showing the sharper one-day increase. The figures provide the latest regional fuel-cost snapshot for Oceanside-area drivers, although AAA does not publish a separate Oceanside-only average.

Gasoline rises slightly

AAA listed the San Diego metro average for regular gasoline at $5.746 per gallon, up 0.4 cents from the previous day. The average was also 4.0 cents higher than a week earlier, 27.3 cents higher than a month earlier and $1.201 higher than a year earlier.

For a driver filling a 15-gallon tank, the monthly increase alone represents roughly $4.10 more per fill than it would have at the earlier average. Actual prices in Oceanside can vary by station, neighborhood, fuel brand and traffic corridor, so the metro figure should be treated as a comparison point rather than a guaranteed pump price.

Diesel moves higher faster

Diesel reached $6.970 per gallon in the same AAA check. That was up 2.4 cents from the prior day, 8.7 cents from a week earlier, 46.7 cents from a month earlier and $1.937 from a year earlier.

The daily diesel increase was six times larger than the regular-gas increase. The longer-term difference is also significant for businesses that rely on diesel-powered vehicles and equipment. A 50-gallon fill-up at the San Diego metro average would cost about $348.50 before taxes, fees or station-level differences.

What higher fuel costs can mean locally

For Oceanside households, sustained prices above $5.70 for regular gas can add pressure to commuting, school transportation, errands and weekend travel budgets. The effects can extend beyond the pump as well. Contractors, landscapers, delivery operators, service companies and restaurants may face higher operating costs when diesel and gasoline remain elevated.

Those businesses do not all pass fuel costs directly to customers, but fuel is one expense that can influence delivery charges, service-call pricing, construction bids and the cost of moving goods. Weekend travelers heading through the North County coast should also expect station prices to differ, particularly along heavily traveled routes.

AAA’s broader California averages also remain above their levels from one month and one year earlier. The San Diego metro numbers are more useful for Oceanside-area readers, but they remain regional averages rather than a survey of every local station.
