Oklahoma City heads into the weekend with major highway projects on the agenda, a noticeable shift toward wetter weather, and a high-energy Thunder win at Paycom Center.
Roads & transit
State transportation officials are set to meet in Oklahoma City on Monday, with several items that could shape some of the city’s most-traveled corridors. The March Transportation Commission meeting is scheduled for 11 a.m. at the R.A. Ward Transportation Building near NE 21st Street, and the public can attend or watch online.
Among the items listed for consideration: an engineering contract tied to widening I-35 between I-40 and I-44, plus another contract focused on rehabilitating pavement on I-44 between SH-74 and I-235, including work involving the Belle Isle bridge. The agenda also includes a briefing on upcoming Route 66-related events in Oklahoma City.
Weather: from record warmth to a wetter stretch
After a February that has run unusually warm in Oklahoma City, forecasters say the pattern is turning. As of Feb. 26, Oklahoma City was tracking as its third warmest February on record, based on average temperature to that point.
Looking ahead, a rainier stretch is expected to begin Saturday night and could bring daily chances for rain into midweek. Thunderstorms are also possible at times, and the added moisture could help tamp down elevated fire danger in parts of the state. If you have weekend errands or outdoor plans, keep an eye on timing as the first round moves in overnight.
Thunder: overtime win in a testy one
The Thunder topped the Denver Nuggets 127-121 in overtime Friday night in Oklahoma City. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 36 in his return after missing time with an abdominal strain, and Oklahoma City improved to 46-15 with the win.
