Police investigating fatal officer-involved shooting in SE OKC
Oklahoma City police are investigating an officer-involved shooting at a trailer home in southeast Oklahoma City that left one person injured and another dead inside the residence.
Officers were called Monday evening to a shots-fired report near Southeast 48th Street and South Sooner Road. Investigators say a neighbor reported being assaulted by a person at the neighboring trailer before officers arrived on scene.
According to police, the suspect later emerged from the home armed with a gun and confronted an officer outside. After repeated commands to drop the weapon, the officer fired, striking the suspect. The suspect was taken to a local hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.
When officers cleared the residence, they found a man dead inside. How he died has not yet been determined. The officer who fired has been placed on routine administrative leave while the shooting is reviewed. No officers were injured.
Big Route 66 centennial celebration headed to Scissortail Park
City and state tourism leaders have announced ‘Kickin’ It On Route 66: OKC Centennial Celebration’, a free, day-long event set for Saturday, May 30, 2026, at Scissortail Park downtown.
The celebration will honor the 100th anniversary of the historic highway with a farmers market, family activities and an evening concert featuring multiple Oklahoma-connected performers. Plans also include a choreographed drone light show to close the night over the park.
The event is expected to draw residents from across the metro and travelers following Route 66 through Oklahoma City, adding another major gathering to the city’s spring and early-summer calendar.
