Parade Crowds, Incoming Fire Summit and Storm System Mark Busy Weekend in Colorado Springs
Colorado Springs, CO – March 16, 2026 – A packed St. Patrick’s parade, an incoming fire summit and a sweeping storm system lead local headlines.
It was a full and eventful weekend across Colorado Springs, with downtown celebrations, public safety gatherings and shifting weather patterns all making news.
St. Patrick’s Day Parade Draws Downtown Crowds
Thousands lined Tejon Street on Saturday, March 14, for the 42nd annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade. The long-running tradition featured a 5K race, a children’s fun run and a noon parade honoring local first responders.
This year’s grand marshal was Colorado Springs Fire Department Chief Randy Royal, recognized for his years of service. Families also took part in a citywide scavenger hunt leading up to the festivities, helping turn the celebration into a multi-day downtown event.
Firefighting Leaders Gather for ‘Fire in the Sky’
Public safety will remain in focus this week as Colorado Springs hosts the Fire in the Sky conference from March 17–19 at Hotel Polaris. The event brings together firefighters and emergency professionals to discuss high-rise firefighting tactics and new safety technologies.
The summit is being held in partnership with the Colorado Springs Fire Department and highlights the city’s growing role as a hub for emergency response training and innovation.
Storm System Brings Changing Conditions
Meanwhile, a large storm system moving across the central United States between March 13 and March 16 evolved into a Colorado low after crossing the Rockies. While the most severe weather has impacted areas farther east, the system has brought shifting winds and unsettled conditions across parts of Colorado.
Residents are keeping an eye on forecasts as the broader weather pattern continues to influence travel and outdoor plans heading into the week.
