Early voting is underway for the Nov. 3, 2026, general election, giving Pembroke Pines voters a chance to consider a proposed city charter change that would move regular municipal elections from March to November of even-numbered years. The proposal has not taken effect and will be decided in the general election.
Voting runs through Sunday, Nov. 1, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily, including weekends. Registered Broward County voters may use any of the countyโs 30 early-voting locations, regardless of where they live in the county.
Pembroke Pines voters can cast early ballots at South Regional Library/Broward College, 7300 Pines Boulevard, and Southwest Regional Library, 16835 Sheridan Street. The deadline to request that a vote-by-mail ballot be mailed is Thursday, Oct. 22, at 5 p.m., according to the Broward County Supervisor of Elections.
What the charter proposal would change
The city commission adopted Ordinance 2026-02 on Aug. 5, submitting the proposed charter changes to voters. The city currently holds regular elections in March of even-numbered years. If approved, the change would move them to November of even-numbered years.
The proposal would also move the commissionโs annual selection of a vice mayor from April to its first meeting in December. It includes a transition schedule that would extend current officialsโ terms by eight months: the mayor and commissioners representing Districts 2 and 3 would serve through the November 2028 election, while Districts 1 and 4 commissioners would serve through November 2030.
The ordinanceโs stated rationale, as reported by Pembroke Pines Today, is that November elections could increase voter participation and reduce city election expenses. Those are expected benefits, not established results. The referendum outcome is not yet known; the proposed election schedule, vice-mayor timing and term extensions depend on voter approval.
Key dates for the November election
Early voting ends Nov. 1. Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3, with voting scheduled from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at assigned precincts. The charter question concerns the timing of future city elections and the transition for current officeholders; the election schedule remains unchanged unless voters approve the proposal.
