Peridot US 70 passing-lane project nears planned summer completion
A one-mile eastbound passing lane east of Peridot remains planned for summer 2026, but ADOT has not posted a specific opening date.
The US 70 Medicine Way project just east of Peridot remains on Arizona Department of Transportation’s planned summer 2026 completion schedule, but available ADOT records do not establish a specific date when the new lane will open.
What is being built
The project covers eastbound US 70 between mileposts 274.5 and 275.5, just east of Peridot and within the San Carlos Apache Tribe community. Its main feature is a new one-mile passing lane intended to give eastbound traffic more opportunity to pass slower-moving vehicles.
The work also includes drainage and guardrail improvements, a five-foot shoulder, new pavement markings, signage and related maintenance within the project limits.
What drivers should expect
ADOT says motorists should anticipate lane restrictions and reduced speeds in the work zone. Flagging operations may require drivers to stop while approaching or traveling through the area, and the agency advises allowing extra time for trips along US 70.
The project page lists regular work from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend work. Those conditions can change, so drivers should check current information before traveling.
Summer completion is not a confirmed opening date
Construction began in November 2025. ADOT’s project page continues to list completion as planned for summer 2026 and warns that schedules may change because of weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
