Pittsburgh Daily Local Brief: Water Rates, Strip District Closures, Carrick Bus Crash
Pittsburgh, PA – February 27, 2026 – Water bills rise March 8; Strip District overnight closures; Carrick school bus crash leaves minor hurt.
Water bills set to rise March 8
Many Pittsburgh households should expect higher monthly water bills starting March 8, after new rates were approved for Pittsburgh Water. The average residential increase is described as about 15%, pushing a typical bill from roughly $100 to about $115 for customers using around 3,000 gallons a month.
The utility says the added revenue is tied to long-running upgrades across the system, including projects focused on replacing lead service lines, improving stormwater infrastructure, and rehabilitating aging sewer mains. Customers enrolled in assistance programs are expected to see smaller increases, and some could see little change depending on eligibility and usage.
Strip District: overnight intersection closures ahead
Drivers in the Strip District should plan for overnight closures at Liberty Avenue and 33rd Street as utility infrastructure work continues. The scheduled closures are set for late evening to early morning hours, with detours remaining in place and delays likely for overnight traffic.
If you commute through the area for early shifts, deliveries, or weekend plans, it may be worth building in extra time and following posted detour signs rather than relying on usual shortcuts.
Carrick: school bus collision leaves juvenile with minor injuries
Public safety officials reported a school bus crash near Brownsville Road and Stewart Avenue in Carrick. A juvenile was treated on scene for minor facial injuries, and no one was transported to the hospital, according to the city’s public safety report.
