1) Water bills set to jump in early March
Pittsburgh Water customers should expect higher bills starting March 8, with the typical residential bill rising about 15% for an average-use household. The increase was approved by state regulators as part of a settlement that also included affordability protections, including smaller changes for customers enrolled in the utility’s assistance program.
The utility says the added revenue is aimed at long-running upgrades: replacing lead service lines, rehabilitating aging sewer and stormwater infrastructure, and keeping up with debt and operating costs tied to a decades-old system.
2) Snow leads to Monday school delays across the region
Overnight snowfall contributed to widespread two-hour delays Monday morning for school districts around the Pittsburgh area. While many main roads improved quickly, the delays were a reminder that side streets, hills, and bus routes can take longer to stabilize after a burst of winter weather.
3) Racial justice summit draws turnout at CCAC
More than 250 people attended the 28th annual Pittsburgh Racial Justice Summit over the weekend at the Community College of Allegheny County’s Allegheny Campus. Organizers framed the day around strengthening democracy and racial equity, with sessions meant to energize local activists and build connections across generations.
