1) Arena chatter at Willow Bend

Plano is now firmly in the regional conversation about where the Dallas Stars could play in the next decade. Recent reports say city leaders have been in talks about a potential arena district at The Shops at Willow Bend, with a letter of intent described publicly by a Dallas council member. Plano officials have also stressed that nothing has been formally offered or approved yet, and any proposal would still have to go through the City Council process.

The Stars’ current lease runs through 2031, and the window between planning, financing, and construction is one reason these conversations are surfacing now.

2) DART deal advances, withdrawal vote pulled back

After months of debate, Plano’s council voted to rescind the May election that would have asked voters whether to leave the regional transit system. In its place, the city approved a new funding agreement framework that would return tens of millions of dollars to Plano over several years for local transportation priorities, if other member cities also sign on.

3) Major U.S. 75 crash snarls the Tuesday commute

Drivers on southbound U.S. 75 near the President George Bush Turnpike saw heavy delays earlier this week after a serious wreck blocked lanes during the morning rush. Emergency crews responded, traffic was rerouted, and the scene was later cleared with lanes reopening. Authorities have not released many public details beyond what was visible at the scene and on regional traffic reporting.

4) Plano ISD included in temporary court block on parts of state DEI law

A federal judge temporarily blocked Plano ISD (along with two other districts) from enforcing parts of a new Texas law that restricts certain DEI-related programming and school-sponsored student groups. The order is limited to the named districts, and Plano ISD said it was working with legal counsel to determine next steps.
