New Publix Store Coming to Plantation

Plantation residents can look forward to a new Publix store at the West Broward Shopping Center, located at the northeast corner of State Road 7 and Broward Boulevard. The groundbreaking is expected soon, with the store slated to open in late spring 2026. This development is part of the city’s efforts to revitalize the Gateway District. The existing post office has been relocated to a more convenient retail space facing State Road 7 to accommodate the new store.

13-Year-Old Arrested for School Shooting Threat

In October 2025, a 13-year-old student was arrested for making electronic threats of a school shooting at Renaissance Charter School in Plantation. The arrest followed concerned parents notifying the school’s safety officer about the threats posted on social media. The juvenile was charged with written or electronic threats to kill and disruption of a school function, and was taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center. Plantation Police emphasized the seriousness of such threats and urged parents to discuss the severe consequences of making false or threatening reports involving weapons at local schools.

Luxury Apartment Project: The Ellsworth

Stiles Residential Group has launched The Ellsworth at Midtown Plantation, a 315-unit luxury apartment community under construction at the corner of Peters Road and SW 80th Street.
