The village has declared a local state of emergency from Friday at noon through early Sunday morning as dangerous cold and winter weather move through the region. Residents are being asked to limit nonessential travel during the worst conditions, check on vulnerable neighbors, and give road crews and utility workers room to operate.

Forecasts for Saturday call for temperatures in the teens with wind chills well below zero and the chance for lingering snow and strong gusty winds. Anyone who must be outside is urged to bundle up, watch for icy sidewalks and side streets, and be prepared for possible delays or brief power interruptions.

Family sing-along night planned at the Senior Community Center

The recreation department is inviting families to a free sing-along event themed around the musical Wicked. The evening will be held at the Port Chester Senior Community Center and will feature movie-style concessions, giveaways, and a chance for kids and adults to sing along to well known songs together.

Organizers say last year’s version of the event drew a big crowd, and they are encouraging families to arrive a bit early to get seats and snacks. The program is designed as an all-ages night out, with no admission charge, making it an easy option for residents looking for something light and fun after a tough winter week.

Downtown construction pushes ahead near the Capitol Theatre

Construction continues on a new twelve story multipurpose building rising at 146 Westchester Avenue, just across from the Capitol Theatre. The project will bring more than two hundred rental apartments, including a portion set aside as affordable units, along with ground floor retail space aimed at strengthening the downtown business district.

The building will include amenities such as a fitness center, resident lounge, and rooftop deck. Village leaders have framed the project as part of a broader push to add housing choices and attract new investment while keeping the downtown area walkable and transit friendly. Work is expected to continue through 2026 before residents move in and new shops open their doors.
