Races, Recycling and a Night at the Theater: Your Bakersfield Monday Brief
Bakersfield, CA – March 9, 2026 – Runners filled Yokuts Park, free tire drop-offs drew residents, and Clue opens tonight downtown.
It was a busy weekend across Bakersfield, with community events drawing crowds from parks to downtown stages.
Women’s Day Run Brings Big Turnout
Yokuts Park was packed early Sunday morning as runners and walkers gathered for the Women’s Day Half Marathon and 5K. The event celebrated Women’s Day month with a festive, family-friendly atmosphere.
Participants took part in a half marathon, 5K and kids races, with food, music and themed medals adding to the energy. Organizers highlighted the event as a way to promote fitness and community pride while encouraging runners of all ages and experience levels.
Free Tire Drop-Off Event Held in Kern County
Kern County Public Works hosted a free tire amnesty event Saturday, giving residents a chance to dispose of old tires at no cost. The March 7 drop-off at the Mojave-Rosamond Landfill was part of a countywide effort to reduce illegal dumping and keep neighborhoods clean.
Additional tire collection events are scheduled later this month, including one on March 21 at the Roberts Lane Transfer Station in Bakersfield. Officials say the program helps protect public health and the environment by ensuring proper recycling and disposal.
‘Clue’ Takes the Stage Tonight
Downtown Bakersfield will see a different kind of crowd Monday night as the touring production of ‘Clue’ opens at Dignity Health Theater. The live stage adaptation of the classic mystery brings comedy, colorful characters and plenty of twists to the city for one night only.
With a weekend of outdoor events behind us and the workweek underway, the show offers a lively option for residents looking to wrap up their Monday with a little entertainment.
