Ramp Closure, Yonkers Idol Auditions and Community Events Mark Busy Weekend in Yonkers
Yonkers, NY – March 8, 2026 – A parkway ramp closure, Yonkers Idol auditions and a full slate of library events headline the weekend across the city.
It’s been a full weekend across Yonkers, with transportation updates, local talent taking the stage and community spaces buzzing with activity.
Overnight Parkway Ramp Closure Ahead
State transportation officials announced that the eastbound ramp from the Cross County Parkway to Exit 6 at the Bronx River Parkway in Yonkers will close overnight on Monday, March 9, from 12 a.m. to 5 a.m., weather permitting.
The temporary shutdown is tied to guide rail work. Drivers are urged to follow posted detours and allow extra travel time during the early morning hours.
Yonkers Idol Auditions Kick Off
A new class of local performers stepped forward this weekend as Yonkers Junior Idol and Yonkers Idol auditions began at Yonkers Montessori Academy.
The long-running competition, now in its 18th year, is open to Yonkers residents ages 10 to 19. Winners receive a cash prize and spend the year performing at city events. The final round is scheduled for June at Untermyer Gardens.
Library Programs Fill the Calendar
Yonkers Public Library branches stayed busy on Friday with storytimes for toddlers, live children’s music, tech help sessions and teen programming.
Highlights included Father Goose Stories at Riverfront Library, a live music session at Will Library and a Teen Scene album release party at Crestwood. March programming continues citywide with family activities and hands-on tech support for adults and seniors.
Community Events and Services
On Sunday, local families are attending viewings for longtime residents at funeral homes across the city, while schools and city departments continue preparations for upcoming March events, including Women’s History Month programs and the St. Patrick’s Day Parade later this month.
