Rancho Cucamonga municipal election filing deadline arrives Friday
Rancho Cucamonga residents considering a run for mayor or City Council Districts 2 or 3 have until 4:30 p.m. Friday, August 7, 2026, to file nomination paperwork for the city’s Nov. 3 general municipal election.
The deadline covers the at-large mayor’s office and one four-year council seat each in Districts 2 and 3. The candidate field remains subject to change because the city’s election page separates people who pulled papers from those who filed and those qualified by the San Bernardino County Registrar of Voters.
Possible extension depends on incumbent filing
Under the city’s election notice, the filing period may extend for non-incumbents through 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 12, but only if an eligible incumbent has not filed or qualified by the Aug. 7 deadline. The extension is conditional; the city has not announced that it will occur.
The nomination period opened July 13. The election is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2026.

The city’s current listing shows the following status categories. A name under “papers pulled” does not by itself mean the person has filed or qualified for the ballot.
Mayor, elected at large
- Qualified by the Registrar of Voters: Jaskirat Sondh, Lynne Kennedy and Marjorie Hamada.
- Papers filed, not yet shown as qualified: Oliver King.
- Papers pulled, not shown as filed: Michael Perez.
City Council District 2
- Qualified by the Registrar of Voters: David VanGorden and Kristine Scott.
- Papers filed, not yet shown as qualified: DeJonae Shaw.
City Council District 3
- Qualified by the Registrar of Voters: Stacy Henry.
- Papers pulled, not shown as filed: Jonathan Schmid.
The city says the status table will be updated at the end of business on Thursdays until the nomination period closes. The current page reflects the latest posted update available for this review and may change after the Aug. 4 screening date and before publication.
How prospective candidates can file
People seeking nomination materials or filing assistance must arrange an appointment with City Clerk Services. The city election page lists the City Clerk Services Director at (909) 774-2005 for candidacy information and nomination papers. The city’s filing instructions also list (909) 774-2023 for appointments and City.Clerk@cityofrc.us for booking assistance.
City Clerk Services is located at City Hall, 10500 Civic Center Drive, Rancho Cucamonga. The city’s posted hours are Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; City Hall is closed Fridays.
What happens after the deadline
The city’s election schedule lists August 8 through August 17 as the public-examination period for candidate statements. If the conditional extension applies, eligible non-incumbents may file through Aug. 12. The city’s schedule lists Aug. 13 as the date for the Secretary of State to determine the order of names on the ballot.
Residents should check Rancho Cucamonga’s official election-information page for Thursday updates and continue to distinguish between papers pulled, papers filed and qualification by the Registrar of Voters. The final candidate field may not be clear until after the Aug. 7 deadline and any applicable extension.
