Record Heat, Library Reopening Date, and Storm Threat Lead Nashville Headlines
Nashville, TN – March 7, 2026 – Record heat hits the city, storms loom this weekend, and the downtown library sets a reopening date.
Nashville is closing out the first week of March with summer-like heat, storm watches, and a long-awaited reopening date for a downtown landmark.
Record Heat Breaks 100+ Year Mark
Friday brought a burst of unusual warmth to Music City. Nashville climbed to 85 degrees on March 6, setting a new record high for the date and marking the hottest March 6 recorded since 1910.
Forecasters say the warmth is short-lived. Showers and thunderstorms are expected to move in Saturday, with the potential for a few strong to severe storms across Middle Tennessee. Residents are encouraged to monitor weather alerts through the weekend.
Strong Storms Possible Saturday
Meteorologists warn that while not everyone will see severe weather, gusty winds and heavy downpours are possible. After Friday’s near-summer conditions, Saturday’s high is expected to dip into the mid-70s as the storm system moves through.
It’s a sharp reminder of Tennessee’s rapid seasonal swings.
Main Library Targets March 30 Reopening
In other major local news, the Nashville Public Library’s main downtown branch is tentatively set to reopen March 30, pending final inspections.
The library has been closed since a June 10, 2025 fire in the adjacent parking garage caused structural damage and a ramp collapse. While the Conference Center remains under repair, regular library services are expected to resume at the main branch later this month.
Metro officials say additional garage repairs and possible upgrades are still under review.
Looking Ahead
From record-breaking heat to storm threats and long-awaited reopenings, it’s been a busy start to March in Nashville. Cooler, more seasonable air is expected to return early next week.
