Winter Weather Leads to School and Facility Closures

Richardson ISD has announced the closure of all schools and offices for January 31 due to a winter storm warning and anticipated hazardous travel conditions. This closure includes all games, activities, and events scheduled for the day. A decision regarding school operations on February 1 will be made after evaluating campus and travel conditions on January 31. Residents are advised to monitor the district’s official channels for updates.

In addition to the school closures, Richardson city facilities will remain closed through January 31 due to severe winter weather. The closures include the Richardson Animal Shelter, Eisemann Center, Richardson Gymnastics Center, Heights Recreation Center, Huffhines Recreation Center, Huffhines Tennis Center, Richardson Public Library, Richardson IQHQ, Richardson Senior Center, Sherrill Park Golf Course, and the Richardson Service Center. Solid waste collection services, including trash, recycling, brush, and bulky item collection, are also suspended for the day. The city’s three 24-hour emergency warming centers remain open to provide temporary shelter during this period.

Community Events Proceed as Planned

Despite the winter weather, several community events in Richardson are proceeding as scheduled. The “Cooking Well Texas Meets Mediterranean” class, presented by Texas A&M AgriLife Extension, is set to take place at the Huffhines Recreation Center on January 31 at noon. This free class will explore the health benefits of the Mediterranean diet and provide participants with an easy recipe to incorporate into their meals. No registration is required for this event.

Additionally, the “Game On: Board Games in the Library” event is scheduled for January 31 from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the Spring Creek Room of the Richardson Public Library. This free event offers a variety of board games for solo or group play, including Clue, Settlers of Catan, Pandemic, Sagrada, Sushi Go, Dixit, and more. The event is open to adults and teens, and no registration is required.
