Castelion, a defense technology company, has commenced construction on a new 1,000-acre manufacturing campus in Sandoval County, New Mexico. The facility, known as Project Ranger, represents a $220 million private investment and is expected to generate $650 million in economic output over the next ten years. The project will create 300 high-wage jobs for residents of New Mexico.
Facility Details
The first building on the campus is scheduled for completion this summer, with all 21 buildings planned to be finished and operational by the end of 2026. Castelion will use the site to produce solid rocket motors, conduct static tests, and assemble components for finished rounds. The company states that its testing procedures are designed to minimize noise and ensure safety for nearby neighborhoods.
Community and Government Response
Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham commented on the development: “This is economic development in New Mexico — high-tech companies bringing high-paying jobs. Castelion chose our state because we have the workforce, the expertise and the infrastructure they need to succeed.”
Local Collaboration
Local collaboration played an important role in bringing Project Ranger to Rio Rancho. Partners included Sandoval County officials, the City of Rio Rancho government, Albuquerque Regional Economic Alliance (AREA), Sandoval Economic Alliance (SEA), and other state leaders.
