Riverside Superior Court Changes Where Some Civil Cases Must Be Filed Starting Aug. 1

Riverside Superior Court is changing where certain civil documents must be filed beginning Saturday, August 1, 2026, sending some filings to the Riverside Historic Courthouse, Corona Courthouse or Moreno Valley Courthouse.

The court announced the administrative adjustment July 27. It affects specified unlimited civil, limited civil, small-claims and unlawful-detainer filings from several western Riverside County communities. It does not mean every civil case from those communities changes location, and the announcement does not say that existing hearings or trials are automatically moved.

Which filings are moving

Under the new filing structure:

• Unlimited civil cases originating from Lake Elsinore, Hemet, Winchester, Homeland, Wildomar and Murrieta will be filed at the Riverside Historic Courthouse, 4050 Main St., Riverside.
• Limited civil, small-claims and unlawful-detainer cases originating from Lake Elsinore and Wildomar will be filed at the Corona Courthouse, 505 S. Buena Vista Ave. No. 201, Corona.
• Small-claims and unlawful-detainer cases previously filed at the Banning Justice Center will be filed at the Moreno Valley Courthouse, 13800 Heacock St., Building D, No. 201, Moreno Valley.

The change concerns where specified documents are submitted. It is an administrative filing-location assignment, not a ruling on the merits of any case.

Why the court made the change

Riverside Superior Court said it reviewed civil filing data from July through December 2025 to identify workload imbalances among court locations. The court said the revised assignments are intended to create a more balanced distribution of civil cases while considering the distance residents must travel to access courthouse services.

The court did not provide a quantified travel-time analysis. As a result, the adjustment should not be described as reducing or increasing travel for every affected community.

Check before submitting documents

Filers should confirm the correct courthouse before submitting documents or traveling. The court’s official Where to File Documents guidance says the proper location can depend on the case type, filing jurisdiction, applicable administrative orders and the relevant city or ZIP code. The court cautions that the appropriate ZIP code or city may depend on the parties and the laws specific to the case type, so residence alone may not determine the filing location.

For documents submitted in person or through a courthouse drop box, the filing cutoff is 4 p.m. The court says electronic documents received through its eSubmit system between 12:00 a.m. and 11:59:59 p.m. on a court day are deemed filed that day. Electronic documents received on a non-court day are deemed filed on the next court day.

Courthouse locations

The three destinations named in the adjustment are the Riverside Historic Courthouse at 4050 Main St., Riverside; the Corona Courthouse at 505 S. Buena Vista Ave. No. 201, Corona; and the Moreno Valley Courthouse at 13800 Heacock St., Building D, No. 201, Moreno Valley. The Banning Justice Center, whose affected filings are being reassigned, is at 311 E. Ramsey St., Banning.

The practical takeaway for Riverside-area residents, attorneys and businesses is to verify the specific case type, filing jurisdiction and applicable city or ZIP code before making the trip. The August 1 adjustment addresses filing locations, not the status or merits of a case.
