Rome Transit begins first major fixed-route redesign in more than 20 years

Rome Transit began a pilot redesign of its fixed-route bus system Monday, Aug. 3, in what the city describes as the first major update to the system in more than 20 years. The redesign keeps six fixed routes but changes their names, colors, stops and schedules.

The new routes are Green, Blue, Yellow, Red, Purple and Orange. They replace the former designations 1A, 1B, 2A, 2B, Route 3 and Ashland Park, respectively. Some pickup times and stops changed, and additional stops were added to reach more community services and destinations. Routes were also adjusted for traffic patterns, roadway improvements and community growth.

The city says certain traffic movements that contributed to delays were eliminated and schedules were optimized to improve on-time performance. Updated bus-stop signs include route and contact information. Because stops and pickup times may differ, riders should review the current maps and schedules before traveling and confirm whether their usual stop remains on a route.
