Roxbury still wants clearer White Stadium parking and shuttle rules

Boston has signed a Transportation Access Plan Agreement for White Stadium, but Roxbury neighbors are still pressing for the details that will determine how game days affect Franklin Park and nearby streets. The city says Boston Legacy FC will fully fund the plan, which relies on transit, shuttles, biking, walking and ride-hail instead of spectator parking near the park.

What the city says is set

In its May 11 update, the city said free shuttles will run from Forest Hills, Ruggles and JFK/UMass, plus satellite lots outside Boston. Boston also says no spectator parking will be allowed in Franklin Park or on neighborhood streets on game days, and that park users will have a reservation system for Franklin Park lots.

The White Stadium project page places the renovated stadium at 450 Walnut Street in Roxbury and Jamaica Plain, which is why parking spillover remains a neighborhood issue.

Why the June 11 meeting mattered

At a June 11 meeting at the William J. Devine Clubhouse, residents from Roxbury, Dorchester and Jamaica Plain pushed back on the parking zone plan. Reporters from the Dorchester Reporter and WBUR said the unresolved questions included how large the restricted zone should be, how many visitor parking passes households might get, and how the city will enforce the rules.

Residents also raised worries that a broad zone could affect cookouts, park visits, churches, the Roxbury YMCA and nearby businesses. Boston officials said residents are still being asked to help shape the final boundaries and that a report will be filed after the first 10 games and then reviewed annually.

For Roxbury, the key test is whether the final rules keep game-day traffic under control without pushing the burden onto neighborhood blocks. The framework is signed. The local debate now is about where the zone ends, how enforcement works and whether the plan holds up once games start.
