San Angelo Gas Holds Near $3.60 While Diesel Tops $5.19

Regular gasoline and diesel are moving in different directions in the latest AAA San Angelo metro price check. Regular gas averaged $3.604 per gallon on August 1, while diesel averaged $5.197 per gallon.

AAA’s figures are metro averages rather than prices at every individual station. They provide a benchmark for the San Angelo area as drivers compare what they see at local pumps.

Regular gas is lower than last week but still above older benchmarks

The San Angelo average for regular gasoline fell 1.4 cents from the previous day and 20.8 cents from a week earlier. That offers some short-term relief for commuters and household drivers compared with the prior week.

However, gasoline remained 11.5 cents higher than a month ago and 86.5 cents higher than a year ago. Drivers may therefore see a recent easing trend without returning to the lower price levels recorded earlier in the year or in 2025.

Diesel continues to move higher

Diesel followed the opposite path. The San Angelo metro average rose 5.4 cents from the previous day, 15.4 cents from the previous week, 84.4 cents from the previous month and $1.877 from the previous year.

The difference matters most for truckers, contractors, farmers, delivery operators and businesses that use diesel-powered vehicles or equipment. Higher diesel costs can add pressure to hauling, field work, construction, equipment service, deliveries and other fuel-intensive operations. Restaurants and service businesses may also face indirect cost pressure when suppliers and mobile workers travel more expensively, although the local sources do not document specific business reactions.

For people who primarily drive gasoline-powered cars, the latest comparison is mixed: prices have eased since the previous day and week, but remain well above the month-ago and year-ago averages. Diesel users are facing a broader increase across every comparison period reported by AAA.
