San Antonio Gas Prices Ease While Diesel Rises in Latest AAA Check
San Antonioโs latest AAA snapshot shows regular gas at $3.656 and diesel at $5.012, with gasoline easing while diesel continues to rise.
San Antonioโs latest AAA metro fuel-price snapshot shows regular gasoline easing while diesel continues to rise. The July 28, 2026, update listed regular gas at $3.656 per gallon and diesel at $5.012.
The two fuels are moving in different directions over the shortest comparison periods. Regular gasoline was lower than the prior day and week, while diesel was higher than both. Both fuels remain well above their levels from a month and a year earlier.
Regular gasoline falls from the prior day and week
AAA listed San Antonio metro regular gasoline at $3.656 per gallon. That was 3.7 cents lower than the prior day and 7.9 cents lower than a week earlier.
The average was still 52 cents higher than a month earlier and 99 cents higher than the same point last year. Those figures describe a metro average, not the price at every station in San Antonio. Drivers may see different prices depending on neighborhood, brand, payment method and station competition.
Diesel moves higher
San Antonio metro diesel averaged $5.012 per gallon in the same AAA snapshot. Diesel was up 7.3 cents from the prior day and 11.6 cents from a week earlier.
The longer-term increases were larger: diesel was 89.7 cents higher than a month earlier and $1.823 higher than a year earlier. That matters for delivery drivers, contractors, landscapers, construction companies, service businesses and other operators whose vehicles or equipment use diesel. Higher fuel costs can affect delivery charges, service calls or project expenses, although the effect will vary by business.
What the fuel split can mean locally
For commuters and households, the recent gasoline pullback may provide limited relief at the pump, but the monthly and yearly comparisons show that travel budgets remain under pressure. Families planning weekend trips and workers who make multiple daily stops may still want to compare nearby stations before filling up.
Diesel costs can work through local business expenses more gradually. Restaurants receiving regular deliveries, contractors moving equipment, service companies making house calls and event operators arranging transportation may face higher operating costs when diesel remains elevated. Those costs do not automatically translate into the same price change for every customer or business.
Texas context
AAAโs Texas average on the same page was $3.672 for regular gasoline and $4.981 for diesel. Those statewide figures provide context but are not substitutes for the San Antonio metro averages. The Texas Public Radio report on San Antonio summer travel costs also documented the recent pressure on local drivers.
