Sandy Fuel Prices Show a Wider Diesel Spread Than Gas
Regular gasoline and diesel were moving differently in Sandy’s latest station checks: regular gas ranged from $3.960 per gallon at the Costco on 11100 S Auto Mall Drive to $4.289 at the 7-Eleven at 9000 S 700 W, while diesel ranged from $4.800 to $5.159. The diesel spread was wider.
These are selected station listings, not an official Sandy citywide average. Station prices can change during the day, and the 7-Eleven page says its gas prices are updated within 24 hours, so drivers should treat the figures as a dated price check rather than a guarantee at the pump.
Regular gas differed by nearly 33 cents
The Costco listing showed regular gasoline at $3.960 per gallon. The 7-Eleven listing showed $4.289, a 32.9-cent difference between the two stations.
For a 20-gallon fill-up, choosing the lower listed price would save about $6.58 compared with the higher one. That can matter for commuters, households with multiple vehicles and weekend travelers, especially when a driver’s normal route passes more than one station.
The comparison does not mean every Costco or 7-Eleven location in Sandy had the same price, and neither listing represents the citywide market.
Diesel spread was wider still
Diesel was listed at $4.800 per gallon at Costco and $5.159 at the 7-Eleven, a 35.9-cent difference. A 30-gallon fill-up at the lower listed price would cost about $10.77 less than the same fill-up at the higher listed price.
The wider diesel spread is especially relevant for contractors, delivery operators, landscapers, service businesses and other companies that use diesel-powered vehicles or equipment. It can also affect operating budgets for businesses that make frequent deliveries or send crews across the Salt Lake Valley.
Salt Lake City prices eased from July 30 but stayed above last week
AAA’s July 31 Salt Lake City metro averages were $4.240 for regular gasoline and $5.278 for diesel. Regular gas was down 1.1 cents from the previous day, while diesel was down 1.8 cents.
Both metro averages remained higher than a week earlier. Regular gasoline was 10.3 cents above the prior week’s $4.137 average, while diesel was 17.3 cents higher than the previous week’s $5.105 average.
For Sandy residents and local businesses, the latest figures point to two separate considerations: regular gasoline was easing slightly in the regional data, while diesel remained more expensive and showed the larger station-to-station gap. Comparing prices before filling up may be most valuable for drivers purchasing diesel or making larger-volume stops.
