Santa Clara Gas Prices Rise as San Jose Metro Diesel Nears $6.84

Regular gasoline and diesel prices both moved higher over the past week and month in the San Jose metro area serving Santa Clara, according to AAA’s July 30, 2026 price check. Diesel was listed at $6.838 per gallon, putting it near $6.84.

Regular gas continues to climb

AAA listed regular gasoline at $5.634 per gallon for the San Jose metro. That was up 5.1 cents from the previous day, 6.4 cents from a week earlier and 18.7 cents from a month earlier.

The figure is a metro benchmark, not a citywide average for every station in Santa Clara. Prices at individual pumps can change at different times and may vary by neighborhood, brand, payment method and fuel program.

Diesel remains close to $6.84

Diesel followed a different day-to-day pattern but remained higher over longer comparison periods. AAA listed diesel at $6.838 per gallon on July 30. The price was down 0.2 cents from the prior day, but up 6.4 cents from a week earlier and 23.6 cents from a month earlier.

That distinction matters for people and businesses that rely on diesel-powered vehicles. Work trucks, delivery fleets, contractors and other commercial operators may face additional operating-cost pressure when higher prices persist, even if the daily movement is slightly lower.

Santa Clara station prices show a wide spread

Listings captured July 31 showed a significant difference between two Santa Clara examples. A Costco listing for the station at 1601 Coleman Ave. showed regular gasoline at $5.099 per gallon. A listing for the 76 station at 2025 El Camino Real showed regular gasoline at $5.70.

That is a difference of about 60 cents per gallon between the two listed prices. The examples are not a citywide survey, and the Costco listing warns that its community-updated figure may differ from the actual pump price. Drivers should verify the posted price before fueling.

What higher prices could mean locally

For Santa Clara commuters, the increase can add to household transportation costs over repeated fill-ups. Higher fuel expenses can also affect delivery services, restaurants, repair companies, contractors and other businesses that use vehicles as part of daily operations. Weekend travelers may also notice the difference when planning longer drives.
