Santa Fe police plan six mobile enforcement cameras for August

The Santa Fe Police Department expects to deploy its first mobile automated-enforcement devices in August 2026, adding speed monitoring across the city and limited sound-enforcement capability.

The initial deployment will include six mobile camera units. Three are planned for the north side of Santa Fe and three for the south side.

How the first deployment is planned

One device on each side of the city will be equipped to support both speed and sound enforcement. The remaining four devices will focus solely on speed enforcement.

The department said the first devices were expected to be deployed during August in a June 9 announcement. The announcement described the program as still being prepared rather than operational at that time.

Police staff and representatives of Jenoptik, the company involved in the program, were holding weekly meetings on technical, logistical and administrative preparations before deployment.

What remains unknown

The city has not identified the exact first deployment date or the streets and intersections where the six mobile units will be placed. The announcement also did not disclose the citation or fine structure, or report any initial enforcement results.

That means the August launch is a scheduled next step, not confirmation that the cameras are already issuing citations. The first operational notices and the locations selected for the devices will determine how the program affects drivers in different parts of Santa Fe.

Once operational, the system could change how speeding and sound violations are detected and handled in the city. The initial north-side and south-side split establishes the program’s first coverage plan, while the four speed-only units and two speed-and-sound units create different enforcement capabilities across the six-device deployment.
