Mayor hosts office hours at the farmers’ market

Later this morning, the mayor will hold open office hours at the Saratoga Farmers’ Market at West Valley College, from 10:00 a.m. to noon. Residents can stop by between errands to share concerns, offer ideas, or simply introduce themselves. The event takes place alongside the regular Saturday market, which runs from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and features dozens of local farmers and food vendors.

These monthly office hours are meant to make city leadership easier to reach in a casual setting. If you have been meaning to ask about neighborhood traffic, public safety, or upcoming projects, today is a good opportunity to speak face to face.

Celtic music lights up Montalvo

On Friday night, Scottish Gaelic singer Julie Fowlis brought her USA tour to the Carriage House Theater at Montalvo Arts Center. The evening program highlighted traditional songs and stories from the Highlands and Islands, giving local audiences a rare chance to hear live Gaelic music close to home.

The concert added to a steady winter schedule of performances at the historic hilltop venue, which continues to draw regional visitors and support Saratoga’s role as a South Bay arts destination.

City seeks commissioners and youth leaders

The city is currently recruiting residents for two open seats on the Planning Commission, with full terms running through March 2030. Applications are due by February 20, and interviews are planned for early March. The commission helps review development proposals and advises the City Council on long-range planning and land-use policy.

High school and middle school students can also get involved. The Youth Commission has multiple terms opening for teens who live in Saratoga, with applications accepted through mid-April. Commissioners help organize events, share youth perspectives with city leaders, and build early experience in public service.

Coming up: safety and scam-prevention seminars

Looking a bit ahead, the city is promoting two free public workshops this month. A scam-prevention seminar for older adults will be held on February 18 at the Saratoga Senior Center, focusing on how to spot common fraud tactics and where to turn for help.

On February 25, an evening evacuation preparedness seminar at the Joan Pisani Community Center will bring together fire, law enforcement, and emergency management partners. The session will walk residents through how to plan routes, pack go-bags, and stay informed during a wildfire or other emergency.
