Savannah Gas Dips to $3.866 While Diesel Rises to $5.329

Regular gasoline edged lower in Savannah while diesel moved higher in AAA’s latest metro price check, creating a split picture for drivers, households and local businesses.

AAA’s Savannah metro average, updated July 31, listed regular gasoline at $3.866 per gallon. That was down 0.2 cents from the previous check and 2.3 cents below the week-ago average.

Gasoline is easing slightly but remains elevated

The small daily and weekly declines do not erase the longer-term increase. AAA’s comparison data showed Savannah regular gas 15.3 cents higher than the month-ago average and 85.3 cents above the year-ago average.

For commuters and households, that means a modest improvement at the metro-average level compared with the previous check, but fuel remains a larger expense than it was at the same time last year. Drivers should remember that the AAA figure is an average across the Savannah metro area, not a guaranteed price at every station.

Diesel moves higher and stays above $5

Diesel went in the opposite direction. AAA listed the Savannah metro diesel average at $5.329 per gallon, up 0.2 cents from the previous check and 4.6 cents from a week earlier.

The longer comparisons were also higher: diesel was 66.9 cents above the month-ago average and $1.67 above the year-ago average. AAA’s historical table lists Savannah’s recorded diesel high at $5.574 per gallon in June 2022, so the latest average remains below that mark.

Diesel costs can affect more than motorists who drive diesel-powered vehicles. Higher operating expenses may matter for contractors, delivery operators, freight companies, service businesses, restaurants that rely on deliveries and other firms that depend on commercial transportation.
