Seattle Daily Brief: CID shooting, Link 2 Line suspension, Bitter Lake apartment fire, and floodplain rules hearing
Seattle, WA – March 3, 2026 – Police investigated a CID shooting, an apartment fire was contained, and Link’s 2 Line faced a power-related shutdown.
Tuesday’s Seattle-area headlines centered on public safety, transit reliability, and a City Hall deadline that lands this afternoon.
Chinatown-International District shooting investigation
Police are investigating a shooting that injured a legally blind man on Monday, March 2, near 5th Avenue South and South Weller Street. Responders found the victim bleeding in the street with suspected gunshot wounds to the leg. He was treated at the scene and taken to Harborview Medical Center in stable condition. No arrests were reported, and investigators asked anyone with information to contact the violent-crimes tip line.
Link 2 Line disruption for Eastside commuters
Sound Transit’s 2 Line was suspended early Tuesday, March 3, between South Bellevue Station and Spring District Station because of a power issue detected around 4:15 a.m. Service continued on the northern segment between Spring District and Downtown Redmond. Shuttle buses were being arranged while crews worked to restore normal operations, a reminder to budget extra time if your commute crosses Lake Washington via transfers.
Bitter Lake apartment fire contained
Seattle firefighters responded just before 1 p.m. Monday to an apartment building near Linden Avenue North and North 130th Street. Crews reported fire in a bedroom, but the building’s sprinkler system helped knock it down quickly. Authorities asked drivers to avoid the area while responders finished the job and investigated.
City Hall: floodplain rules hearing and comment deadline
The Seattle City Council’s Land Use and Sustainability Committee is set to hold a public hearing Wednesday, March 4, on proposed permanent floodplain development regulations. The legislation would adopt updated flood-risk maps and set procedures for building or rebuilding in flood-prone areas, changes tied to federal flood-insurance requirements. Written comments are due by 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 3.
