1) Shots-fired report in South Seattle
An early-morning 911 surge reported gunfire in the Rainier Valley area. Officers later found dozens of 9mm shell casings in the roadway near an intersection on Martin Luther King Jr Way S. No injuries or property damage were immediately reported, and investigators were notified to follow up.
2) Road closures and slowdowns around SR 99 and I-5
Drivers moving between Seattle Center, downtown, and the SR 99 corridor dealt with timed closures tied to a major running event, plus the usual squeeze from ongoing construction season pinch points. Separate lane reductions on the First Avenue South Bridge have continued to slow northbound traffic, and the long-running work on I-5 near the Ship Canal remains a daily factor for commuters. If you are heading into the city core, transit and extra time were the best bets over the weekend and into the Monday morning transition.
3) Local sports bright spot: Junior Sonics head back to nationals
A Seattle adaptive sports program’s 13-year-old varsity wheelchair basketball squad earned a trip to the National Championships for the first time in a decade. The team is scheduled to compete March 20–22 in West Monroe, Louisiana. Organizers say the athletes have put in months of training, and families are seeking help with travel costs to get the full roster to the tournament.
