Severe Weather Week Wraps, WFPL Adds Shows, and Big Crowds Fill Louisville Venues
Louisville, KY – March 8, 2026 – Severe Weather Awareness Week concludes, WFPL debuts new programs, and major events draw crowds across the city.
Louisville is heading into Sunday with a mix of public safety reminders, media updates and a busy weekend of events across the city.
Severe Weather Awareness Week Concludes
Kentucky Severe Weather Awareness Week wrapped up on March 7, following a statewide push led locally by Mayor Craig Greenberg. The annual campaign encouraged residents to review emergency plans, refresh disaster kits and participate in a statewide tornado safety drill.
City officials emphasized preparation for spring storms, including tornadoes, flooding and damaging winds. Metro Emergency Services also highlighted tools like weather alert radios and local emergency notifications to help families stay informed.
WFPL Expands Programming Lineup
Louisville Public Media launched an expanded lineup on 89.3 WFPL beginning March 7. The update adds several new public affairs and news programs, broadening regional and national coverage while maintaining a focus on issues affecting Greater Louisville.
Station leaders say the goal is to better connect listeners with in-depth reporting and conversations that reflect life in the city and across Kentucky.
Full Weekend of Events Draws Crowds
It has also been a high-energy weekend around town. Monster Jam returned to Freedom Hall with shows on Saturday and Sunday, bringing families downtown for high-flying truck stunts and pit party events.
Meanwhile, the Louisville Korean Festival & Showcase at the Kentucky Exposition Center celebrated food, culture and community on Saturday, drawing visitors from across the region.
Utilities were also in focus this weekend. A statewide public affairs program reported that Louisville Gas and Electric continues neighborhood-level infrastructure upgrades aimed at reducing storm-related outages, with officials citing measurable improvements in reliability in recent years.
As the city moves into mid-March, the focus remains on preparedness, community engagement and a packed calendar of local events.
