Shaker Heights Daily Brief: Council Session, PTO Raffle, Weekend Events
Shaker Heights, OH — February 7, 2026 — Council eyes Lower Lake plans, PTO wraps a senior raffle, and residents get weekend fun from skates to indoor market.
Good morning, Shaker Heights. Here’s a quick look at what’s moving locally as the weekend gets underway.
Council to review Horseshoe Park and Lower Lake plans
On Monday, February 9, City Council will hold a special work session focused on Horseshoe Park and the Lower Lake area. The city has advertised the meeting as open both in person and via Zoom, giving residents several ways to follow the discussion.
The session is part of continuing work around the future of the Lower Lake site, including public access, park design and long‑term infrastructure needs. If you live nearby or use the trails and greenspace, this is a key opportunity to hear an update and prepare any feedback you may want to share.
PTO raffle closes today for Class of 2026 seniors
The districtwide PTO is wrapping up its Class of 2026 raffle baskets fundraiser, with the drawing scheduled for tonight, Saturday, February 7. Families had until Friday evening to buy tickets, with prize packages ranging from local entertainment and museum passes to nights out and cooking classes.
Proceeds are earmarked for senior‑year traditions such as After Prom, the Senior Clap Out and keepsake photo events. Even if you are not a senior parent, the fundraiser is a snapshot of how the school community is trying to keep those milestone experiences strong and well supported.
Weekend outings: skates and the indoor farmers market
Friday night brought an extended edition of the community skating series, giving families a chance to get out of the house and onto the ice despite the mid‑winter chill. These events continue to be a low‑cost option for kids to burn energy and see classmates outside of school.
Today, the North Union Indoor Farmers Market at the Van Aken District offers another way to get out locally. Shoppers can browse regional produce, baked goods and specialty items without driving far from home, and the market continues to anchor Van Aken as a year‑round gathering spot.
Looking ahead
Beyond the weekend, city and school calendars stay busy later in February with public meetings, superintendent coffees and family events. If you have not already, it is a good time to check those calendars and set reminders so important dates do not sneak up on you.
