Sharon Planning Board hearing: Ahmadiyya mosque plan and PO Square guidelines
Sharon MA – The Planning Board meets virtually July 9, 2026 at 7:00 PM for a public hearing on a minor site plan for the Ahmadiyya mosque and PO Square guidelines.
Sharon residents will be able to weigh in on two items on the Sharon Planning Board’s virtual agenda on Thursday, July 9, 2026 at 7:00 PM: a public hearing on a proposed minor site plan review tied to the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Center (Nasir Ahmad Mosque), and a separate presentation/discussion of the town’s PO Square/Town Center design guidelines that can shape expectations for storefronts—especially signs.
Public hearing: minor site plan review for the Nasir Ahmad Mosque area
According to the agenda, the Planning Board will hold a virtual public hearing at 7:00 PM to review a proposed minor site plan review application for the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Center located at 414 N Main St, 414A N Main St, and 4 Nasir Ahmad Road. The meeting will be held via Zoom, with the online meeting link and phone dial-in numbers listed in the agenda packet.
In Sharon’s zoning framework, “minor site plan review” is part of the town’s site plan review process for certain project types that meet specific criteria. The zoning code outlines that minor site plan review applications include (among other items) information about existing and proposed buildings and uses, means of building egress, parking areas and access drives, loading and refuse/waste disposal, accessible routes and accessible parking, and grading.
The code also spells out what a “complete sign package” must include: all advertising and way-finding signage; showing all wall signs and freestanding signs; and sign plans/details that include locations, dimensions, colors, materials/finishes, illumination levels, methods of illumination, and structural support.
Also on the agenda: PO Square Guidelines Proposal (signs and streetscape)
Earlier on the same agenda, the board lists a PO Square Guidelines Proposal at 7:15 PM, identified as being presented by Emily Innes (consultant).
Why this matters for nearby businesses and shoppers: the town’s PO Square design guidelines are intended to guide how development in the PO Square/Town Center business area looks and feels—particularly for signage and the pedestrian-oriented streetscape.
The design guidelines state they are intended to apply only to permanent, commercial signs (not temporary signs such as “For Sale” signs). They also encourage pedestrian amenities such as awnings, and they explicitly note that signage is not permitted on the awning.
How to follow along (and what to watch for next)
To join and participate, use the Zoom meeting information posted with the Planning Board’s July 9, 2026 agenda materials. Residents should review the uploaded documents for the minor site plan review so they can focus questions on the submission details (site layout/access, drainage/stormwater systems, lighting/landscaping, and sign/way-finding plans).
Because the town’s posted schedule includes both items, it’s also worth paying attention to whether the board’s discussion of PO Square guidelines leads to additional steps or follow-up actions after the public hearing.
