The Spokane County Sheriffโs Office said investigators developed probable cause to charge Charles E. Cartwright with felony second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm after an Oct. 28 standoff at a Spokane Valley home. The office said investigators consulted with a deputy prosecutor. KHQ described the charge as a police recommendation.
The reported probable-cause finding is not a court ruling or a conviction. The Sheriffโs Office said Cartwright remained in Spokane County Jail when it issued its Oct. 29 update.
Response lasted about 2 hours 40 minutes
Deputies responded at about 7:40 a.m. Oct. 28 to a reported person-in-crisis call at a residence in the 800 block of North Herald Road. The Sheriffโs Office said deputies warned immediate neighbors and deployed SWAT and other response units.
The office said a search warrant was obtained at about 9:45 a.m. A drone located Cartwright inside, and he surrendered at about 10:20 a.m., according to the agency. That was about 35 minutes after the reported warrant time and about 2 hours 40 minutes after deputies responded, using the agencyโs approximate times.
The Sheriffโs Office reported no injuries. KHQ reported that Herald Road was closed between Broadway Avenue and Boone Avenue during the standoff and later reopened.
Earlier misdemeanor allegations and court listing
The Sheriffโs Office said active misdemeanor warrants stemmed from a separate Aug. 13 incident. It identified 10 counts of reckless endangerment and five counts of aiming or discharging firearms or dangerous weapons. The office said Cartwright was released on his own recognizance on Aug. 17. Those counts are allegations, not findings of guilt.
The Spokane County court calendar lists a 1:30 p.m. Oct. 29 first appearance for Cartwright in Courtroom 202, in a pre-file adult criminal matter. The current entry is marked โCONT.โ It gives no reason or new date and does not establish whether the appearance occurred or what the court decided.
