Shooting Investigation, Street Safety Upgrades and Heat Wave Ahead
Sacramento, CA – March 11, 2026 – Police investigate a North Sacramento shooting, safety upgrades target dangerous intersections, and a March heat wave looms.
Sacramento is waking up to a mix of public safety updates, infrastructure improvements and a big shift in the weather.
Officer-Involved Shooting Under Investigation
Sacramento police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened early Wednesday in North Sacramento. Details remain limited, but officials confirmed the incident occurred on a residential block and involved at least one officer discharging a weapon.
The department has not released information about the condition of the person involved. Detectives and internal investigators are reviewing the circumstances, and more updates are expected as the investigation continues.
Four High-Injury Intersections Getting Safety Fixes
The Sacramento City Council has approved new safety upgrades at four intersections identified as part of the city’s High Injury Network.
The improvements will be made at Folsom Boulevard and Seville Way; Raley Boulevard and Santa Ana Avenue; W Street and 8th Street; and Alhambra Boulevard and X Street.
Planned upgrades include pedestrian-activated flashing beacons, improved curb ramps, clearer striping and updated signage. City officials say construction is expected to begin later this month, with completion anticipated this summer. The goal is to reduce serious crashes and make crossings safer for people walking and rolling.
Unusual March Heat on the Way
Forecasters are warning of an unusually strong March heat wave building across California. While triple-digit temperatures are expected in desert areas, the Sacramento Valley could see highs approaching 90 degrees next week.
Meteorologists say temperatures may run well above seasonal averages, raising concerns about rapid snowmelt in the Sierra and changing river conditions. Residents are encouraged to stay hydrated and monitor local forecasts as the pattern develops.
Kings Host Hornets Tonight
On the sports front, the Sacramento Kings are set to host the Charlotte Hornets tonight, March 11. With several key players listed as injured on both sides, the matchup could test each team’s depth as the season winds down.
