Shore Fire sent Moreno Valley families to Valley View High School shelter
During the Shore Fire, Moreno Valley families were directed to Valley View High School for shelter—people and pets included—as CAL FIRE hit 100% containment June 25.
During the Shore Fire in Riverside County, Moreno Valley families who were told to leave had a clearly identified local shelter option: Valley View High School, with people and pets included.
CAL FIRE’s incident record shows the fire started June 15, 2026 at 8:23 a.m., burned 3,085 acres, and reached 100% containment on June 25, 2026 (contained at 11:30 a.m. and updated to 100% contained at 6:27 p.m.). CAL FIRE lists the cause as under investigation.
Where displaced families went in Moreno Valley: Valley View High School
Local reporting during the active incident period said Riverside County established an evacuation center for residents and their pets at Valley View High School in Moreno Valley.
Address: 13135 Nason St.
Pets and large animals: separate intake at San Jacinto Valley Animal Campus
Reporting also directed families with larger animals to a separate intake location: San Jacinto Valley Animal Campus at 581 S. Grand Ave., San Jacinto.
KESQ described the evacuation center as for residents and their pets, and NBC Los Angeles added that large animal intakes were available at the San Jacinto campus.
How travel was affected: Highway 60 disruption during the incident
Fire activity also affected commuting routes. KESQ reported that westbound 60 Freeway traffic was closed between Interstate 10 and Nason Street in Beaumont overnight so firefighters could safely battle the fire.
CAL FIRE’s incident updates described an earlier, time-specific closure as well: an evening update posted June 15 said Highway 60 westbound at Interstate 10 would be shut down at 8:15 p.m. for several hours, while eastbound traffic would remain open. Later CAL FIRE updates said the westbound lanes reopened at the I-10 interchange as operations progressed.
Evacuation guidance changed during the Shore Fire
If you followed alerts during the incident, the key point is that evacuation instructions weren’t static.
- June 17: CAL FIRE reported some evacuation orders were downgraded to WARNINGS while the Shore Fire Perimeter remained under an evacuation ORDER.
- June 18: CAL FIRE reported the evacuation ORDER for the Shore Fire Perimeter zone was downgraded to a WARNING, and other evacuation orders/warnings were canceled.
What to watch next after CAL FIRE’s containment update
Even after containment was reported, CAL FIRE continued to describe work such as patrols and monitoring for hot embers. As of CAL FIRE’s late-June updates showing the fire is 100% contained, the practical takeaway for residents is to keep checking the official incident page for any final operational notes—not assume conditions are “risk-free” just because containment was reached.
