Moreno Valley’s 2026 election filing deadline is August 7
Moreno Valley’s 2026 municipal nomination period is underway, with three city offices scheduled to appear on the Tuesday, November 3, 2026, general election ballot.
The offices are the mayor, elected citywide, and Moreno Valley City Council Districts 2 and 4. The mayoral term is two years. Each council seat carries a four-year term.
August 7 is the scheduled filing deadline
The nomination period opened July 13 and is scheduled to close Friday, August 7. This is a deadline for candidates seeking office, not a voter-registration deadline.
The city’s official election notice also describes a possible extension through Wednesday, August 12. That extension is not automatic. It applies only to non-incumbent candidates if an incumbent officeholder does not file nomination papers by August 7 and the other legal conditions in the notice are met.
That distinction matters because the final candidate field may not be clear until the regular filing period closes, the city determines whether the extension applies and any extended filing period ends.
How candidates file
Moreno Valley says nomination papers are available by appointment through the City Clerk’s Office. The paperwork is provided digitally, so prospective candidates should contact the office rather than assume they can walk in and obtain a filing packet.
City Clerk office hours are Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The appointment and information phone number is (951) 413-3010.
Because the filing period is already open, candidates considering a run should contact the City Clerk promptly, especially if they need time to review requirements or complete required forms.
What voters should watch next
The city says candidate information will be posted after the nomination period closes. Until that information is released, campaign announcements or early speculation should not be treated as a finalized list of candidates.
Voters should also keep the races separate. The mayor is an at-large office, meaning the winner is chosen citywide. Council Districts 2 and 4 are geographic seats, so only voters in the applicable districts will participate in those contests.
Voting information will come from the county
Moreno Valley’s election notice includes information about vote-by-mail, voting centers and Election Day voting hours. Riverside County’s Registrar of Voters provides broader voter-information and ballot-management resources, including vote-by-mail guidance and ballot-status tracking.
Residents should use the city’s election page to check for candidate information after the filing process concludes and the county Registrar of Voters for ballot and voting logistics. The key dates now are July 13 through August 7 for the regular nomination period, a possible August 12 extension under limited conditions, and Election Day on November 3, 2026.
