Sidney Daily Briefing: Bills Due, Siren Test, Events Ahead
Good evening, Sidney. Here’s a quick look at what mattered around town today and what’s coming up over the next week.
Utility bills due today
Today was the due date for city utility bills, and residents were reminded that the city offers several ways to pay, from in-person and mail payments to automatic deductions from a checking or savings account. Auto Pay is being encouraged as a simple way to avoid late fees and last-minute trips to the payment counter.
Noon alert system test
If you heard the sirens or other alerts around midday, that was a scheduled test of the citywide alert system. The exercise was intended to confirm that equipment and notification channels are ready for use during severe weather or other emergencies. No emergency was associated with today’s test.
Winter yard waste pickup next week
City crews are set to conduct the monthly winter yard waste collection from Monday, February 9, through Friday, February 13. Residents are asked to place brush and bagged yard waste at the curb on their normal trash day during that week. Because routes can be heavy this time of year, actual pickup may come later in the week than usual.
TNR clinic and county events ahead
On Wednesday, February 11, the local trap-neuter-return clinic will be working in selected neighborhoods to help manage the community’s feral cat population. Volunteers will trap cats, transport them for surgery and vaccination, then return them to their home areas. Neighbors are being asked to keep pet cats indoors and avoid feeding outdoor cats during trapping days to make the work go smoothly.
Looking countywide, upcoming conservation-themed storytimes and craft sessions focused on healthy soil are scheduled this month at area libraries, offering family-friendly options just a short drive from town.
Business community on the move
The local business community has a busy February calendar. A postponed ribbon cutting for a fitness business is now slated for February 10, followed by a morning networking coffee on February 11. A workshop on how video can support local businesses is planned for February 12, and later in the month young professionals will gather for a lunch outing and several additional ribbon cuttings downtown.
