Sidney continues preparations for Amazon Web Services data center on Millcreek Road

Amazon Web Services is developing a data-center facility on the north side of Millcreek Road, west of Vandemark Road, in Sidney, as the city continues documenting the project’s permits, utility arrangements and tax-related agreements.

The City of Sidney’s proposed data-center FAQ was last updated June 24, 2026. The page identifies Amazon Web Services as the developer and lists a grading permit dated May 14, 2026. It also links to related project resolutions dated in 2025 and 2026.

The facility remains under development. The city has not identified it as operational, and the current project information does not establish that construction is complete or that the data center has begun operating.

Agreements tied to the project

The city’s FAQ lists a water-and-sewer service agreement and an infrastructure-development agreement for AWS. Those documents address municipal utility service and infrastructure connected with the proposed facility.

The FAQ also lists a Community Reinvestment Area agreement and an income-tax-sharing agreement connected to Amazon Data Services Inc. The agreements are part of the city’s documented project actions and relate to land development, public infrastructure and the treatment of certain tax revenues.

The city identifies strong infrastructure, available land and reliable utilities as reasons for the Sidney location. Those factors help explain the project’s placement on the Millcreek Road site, but they do not establish a final construction schedule, operating plan or financial outcome.

What the project could affect

A large data-center development could have implications for Sidney’s utility planning, public infrastructure, tax revenues, school-district finances, construction activity and long-term land use. The city’s published documents give residents a way to follow the municipal agreements and actions connected with the site.

The current FAQ does not provide a final construction-cost figure, job count, power-demand estimate, completion date or final tax-revenue estimate. Those figures should not be treated as established project facts at this stage.
