Smyrna turns Village Green into a World Cup watch zone starting June 6
Cup Daze starts June 6 at Village Green Park with a soccer world-record attempt, then runs World Cup viewing events through the July 19 final.
Smyrna is turning Village Green Park into a World Cup gathering spot this summer, starting Saturday, June 6, with a global soccer world-record attempt and then continuing with match-viewing events through Sunday, July 19.
In the city’s Cup Daze announcement, Smyrna says Village Green will have big screens along with games, music, food, giveaways and other family-friendly programming. The city calendar shows the events centered at Village Green Park through the end of the tournament run.
The June 6 launch is the biggest single draw. The city page lists the opening event at Village Green from noon to 1 p.m. Cobb Courier reports that the official program starts at 11:30 a.m., with the coordinated record attempt set for 12:30 p.m.
For people who want to take part rather than just watch, the rules are specific: advance registration is required, participation costs $15, and each person must be able to juggle a size 5 soccer ball and bring their own ball. Spectators can attend free.
That setup matters for nearby residents, commuters and downtown business owners because the event run should bring more cars, more foot traffic and more activity around Village Green Park than a normal June weekend. The most likely impact is tighter parking and more pedestrian traffic near downtown Smyrna on June 6 and other busy match days.
For downtown businesses, the crowd could mean more walk-in traffic from people arriving early, lingering after matches or looking for food and drinks nearby. For families and commuters, the practical move is simple: check the city calendar before heading over if you need close parking or a quick route through the area.
The Cup Daze run ends with the World Cup final listed for July 19.
