South John Deere Road Lane Restrictions Begin July 27: What Cascade-Area Drivers Should Know

Drivers traveling from Cascade toward the Dubuque area should expect daytime lane restrictions on South John Deere Road beginning Monday, July 27, 2026.

Dubuque County has posted the South John Deere Road PCC Patching project for work from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily through Tuesday, August 4. The project affects South John Deere Road, also identified as County Road Y35, between approximately 225 feet north of Highway 3 and 330 feet south of Breiner Drive.

What is being repaired

The county’s project documents describe Portland cement concrete patching along approximately 0.322 miles of roadway. The work is intended to repair sections of the existing concrete pavement rather than close the entire corridor.

Under the posted traffic-control plan, one lane may be fully closed while traffic continues in the opposite direction. Drivers should expect controlled, slower movement through the work area instead of assuming the road will be completely shut down.

What drivers should expect

A July 21 report from Dubuque In Pursuit News says the northbound lane is expected to close first, with traffic using the southbound lane. If traffic control shifts during the project, the southbound lane could be closed while traffic moves in the opposite direction.

The report also says the South John Deere Road intersections with Highway 3 and Tanzanite Drive are expected to be affected during construction. Drivers should watch for workers, equipment, changing lane controls and signs near the work zone.

No formal detour should be assumed unless Dubuque County or another transportation agency posts one. Travelers who use this part of the Dubuque-area road network should allow extra time and check conditions before leaving.

Why Cascade-area travelers may care

Cascade is in Dubuque County along U.S. 151 between Dubuque and Cedar Rapids. That does not mean every Cascade resident uses South John Deere Road, but the countywide project may matter to residents, workers, freight operators and businesses whose trips take them through the affected corridor.

The county calendar lists August 4 as the end of the currently posted traffic-restriction window. Separately, the county’s 2026 PCC patching bidding document allows project work through August 14. Those dates are not identical: August 4 is the posted work-window end, while August 14 is the document’s allowed completion deadline.
