Springfield Gas Prices Edge Higher Thursday While Diesel Holds Above $5

Springfield drivers saw regular gasoline and diesel move higher on Thursday, July 30, but the two fuels continue to show different weekly patterns. AAA’s Springfield price check listed regular gasoline at $3.910 per gallon, up 5.2 cents from Wednesday. Diesel reached $5.191, an increase of less than 1 cent from the previous day’s check.

Regular gas is higher for the day, lower for the week

Thursday’s regular-gas average was 4 cents below the Springfield price listed one week earlier. Even with that weekly easing, the average remains 95.5 cents higher than it was a year ago.

For commuters and households, the daily move is relatively small on a single fill-up, but repeated changes can add up for people driving to work, school, appointments and weekend destinations. AAA’s figure is a Springfield-wide average, not a price found at every local station.

Diesel remains the sharper cost concern

Diesel followed regular gas higher Thursday, rising from $5.183 to $5.191. Unlike regular gasoline, diesel was also considerably higher than a week earlier—up 27.6 cents—and stood $1.507 above its year-ago level.

That makes diesel the more significant local cost concern for contractors, delivery operators, farmers, repair companies and other businesses that depend on heavy vehicles. Higher diesel expenses can also work their way into freight, construction, agricultural services, restaurant deliveries and service calls, although the available price data does not establish a specific cause for this week’s movement.

Local pump prices can differ from the average

A 7-Eleven/Speedway listing at 1147 N. Limestone Street showed regular gasoline at $3.899 per gallon and diesel at $4.599. Those station-level prices were lower than AAA’s Springfield averages, particularly for diesel. The two listings should not be treated as if they were captured at exactly the same time, but the comparison shows why drivers may see noticeably different prices depending on the station.

For residents planning a longer drive, the most useful step is to compare nearby pumps before filling up. Small differences matter more for larger vehicles and for businesses making multiple fuel purchases each day.
